| Sweet corn Festival & AZ State BBQ
Championship |
| AUG 30 |
| Taylor |
The Annual Labor Day
celebration in Taylor started as
the Cucumber Festival in 1948. It
was held to celebrate cucumbers in
recognition of the importance of the
cucumber business to the local economy.
Cucumbers
were
raised for
the Arnold
Pickle
and Olive
Company.
The cucumber
business ended in the 1960s and
the festival ended.
In 1984, Julia Freeman, a member of
the Snowflake Taylor Chamber of Commerce,
brought back the Labor Day traditions
by celebrating Taylor Sweet Corn,
and it has continued every year since.
Come join us the Saturday before
Labor Day, August 30, 2008 at the Taylor
Rodeo Grounds. The day begins with a
2-mile fun walk and a 6-mile run followed
by an entertaining parade, arts &
craft fair and the Annual Corn -n- que.
What’s a Corn -n- que, you ask? It’s the
name of the AZ State BBQ Cookoff, and
it’s the 3rd year the BBQ Championship
has been held at the Festival. The winner
proceeds to the next level of competition
at Kansas City.
The Kids Horseless Rodeo is something
fun for all to see. There is more
rodeo fun in the afternoon and evening
for adults and children alike to come and
watch. Don’t forget all the delicious food,
especially the sweet corn-you can buy it
ready to eat or take it to go.
The day is packed full of pleasure…
come and spend the weekend with your
family and friends!

If you'd
like to learn something about the Sonoran Desert's natural
history, the Desert Museum is a great place to start. In a
few short hours you'll encounter more kinds of animals and
plants than most people would see in a lifetime spent
roaming the region on their own, and our naturalistic
exhibits
help show how each species fits into its habitat. [Link] |
