10th Annual White Mountains’ Winter Games

Saturday 28th January to Sunday 29th January:

10th Annual White Mountains’ Winter Games

Hon-Dah Resort Casino — For the Love of Dogs

Every year the Winter Games rolls in an abundance of snow, which is perfect for the snow-dependent festivities that draw visitors and mushers from around the world. This will be the event’s tenth year anniversary and we are gearing up for one incredible weekend of fun and adventure. There are so many things to do and see, including, of course, watching the amazing sled-dogs compete in the annual races held at Sunrise Ski Park.

Sunrise grooms a spectacular trail every year. Mushers say it is one of the best trails they have ever raced. It’s considered a technical trail because it winds through the woods and takes some skill to keep up speed and yet maneuver past corners, over hills and around trees. After adding 9,000′ elevation to the mix — you have quite a challenge. On Sunday several mushers choose one of their dogs and invite kids to take a ride down the starting shoot on a sled. If you love dogs, this is the sport for you! Races start at 9am on Saturday and Sunday and finish about noon.

After Saturday’s race, Hon-Dah Casino hosts a winter festival at its Festival Grounds, starting at 2pm. This year there will be Chili, Corn Bread, and Salsa Cook-Off Competitions with People’s Choice Awards. Come taste the goods and make a meal of it. Also, to raise money for one of the White Mountains’ No-Kill Shelters, there will be a Northern Pure-breed Dog Show, a “Mountain Mutt” Dog show, and a Dog Weight Pull competition.

If you’ve never witnessed ice carving, this event draws a crowd like none other. Our live entertainment this year is by Marble Heart (formerly Billy’s Gone). More than 500 people packed the grounds last year and stayed until the end. The last event was the Dog Weight Pull competition and folks cheered for the canine contestants. Join us this year on January 28th and 29th for the 10th Annual White Mountains’ Winter Games, hosted by Sunrise Ski Park and Hon-Dah Resort Casino.

All event registration forms can be found at www.wintergames.hon-dah.com.
