Big Band Hangar Dance and WWII Musical Show, March 17th

The Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum (CAF) and presenting sponsor Hensley and Company invite you to take a Sentimental Journey back to 1943 with “A Night in the 40s” Big Band Dance. This glamorous event features a WW II 1940′s musical show followed by a big band orchestra playing sounds of the era to dancing men and women dressed in period styles – all in the shadow of the vintage B-17 WW II Flying Fortress bomber “Sentimental Journey”!

“A Night in the 40′s” benefits a worthwhile cause – a fund raiser for the non-profit volunteer CAF Aircraft Museum, 2017 N. Greenfield Rd at Mesa’s Falcon Field, a organization dedicated to keeping aviation history alive for current and future generations.

“A Night in the 40′s” will be held Saturday, March 17. Entertainment begins at 5:30 pm with The Kathy Donald Jazz Ensemble. At 7:30 pm, the Sonoran Swing Big Band Orchestra plays favorite music from the war years. There will be a costume contest for the best-dressed 1940′s costume and a swing dance contest.

Tickets for “A Night in the 40′s” are $35 per person purchased in advance and $40 the day of. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or online at www.bigbanddance.com. All admission fees and donations are fully tax deductible.

Trolleys Help Visitors Explore Scottsdale

Scottsdale visitors have lots of options to get around town through one of several trolley programs offered by the City of Scottsdale.

  • The seasonal Hospitality Trolley, which runs through April 1 daily from 10 am to 10 pm, provides stops along Scottsdale Road from north to south Scottsdale. Stops include several area hotels, four shopping centers and the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.
  • The seasonal Resort Trolley, which runs through April 1 Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am to 9:45 pm, transfers guests from seven resorts and restaurants to downtown Scottsdale at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
  • Both trolleys also connect to the year-round Downtown Trolley, which explores downtown Scottsdale with stops every 15 minutes. For a complete list of trolley stops and maps, visit:

Art “Made in America”

Arizona Fine Art EXPO (EXPO) loves and believes in our country and the encouragement of everything being made in America. With 107 studios filled with award winning, nationally recognized and emerging artists, patrons have an opportunity to visit and witness art in progressive stages before their very own eyes.

Come anytime and often over the ten-week period from January 19th through April 1st, 2012. EXPO is open every day of the week from 10 am to 6 pm at 26540 N. Scottsdale Road (SW corner of Scottsdale & Jomax Roads).

Patrons can watch everything from painting, sketching, rapidograph pen cross-hatching, etching, pastels and charcoals on canvas to sculpting clay, metal-smithing and one of a kind jewelry, wood sculpting, stonecarving, furniture and much more. Subject matters range from contemporary to cowboys, abstract to animals, landscapes to figures.

Weekends come alive with musical entertainment out in the sculpture garden. Events are held throughout the 10 weeks, such as public art classes and workshops, artists’ garden parties, wine tasting, artist book signings and more!

Visitors take pleasure in wandering throughout the 2-acre sculpture garden with courtyard paths, lovely bridges, Koi pond, and artists’ water fountains. Enjoy the charming Café de EXPO, where patrons may eat indoors surrounded by working artists or out in the garden surrounded by spectacular sculptures and the tranquil sounds of flowing waterfalls.

A one-time season pass costs $10 and $8 for seniors and military. One dollar from every pass is donated to our U.S. Veterans charity American Healing Arts Foundation (AHAF), where our great American veterans gather for free classes and art therapy.

Return as often as desired at no additional charge! Parking is FREE. Artwork is exhibited and for sale. Commissions welcomed.
